Fast-tracking sustainable jet fuel.
Big Picture
Aviation accounts for over 2% of global emissions. While hydrogen- and battery-powered planes are in the works, neither is ready for long-haul flights – where 70%+ of emissions occur. Enter sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), a carbon neutral replacement for today’s jet fuel. Customers need billions of gallons of low-cost SAF to make good on their net-zero commitments, but lack a true 1:1 drop-in replacement that meets their cost and performance expectations.
How it Works
AIRCO has perfected a proprietary catalyst that converts CO₂ and green H₂ (made on-site in water electrolyzers) into jet fuel. Because of this catalyst, AIRCO’s process is one of the most efficient on the market. They have already delivered jet fuel to their first customer and are now scaling to millions of gallons with a new industrial facility.
Unfair Advantage
AIRCO’s SAF is unique: it contains all of the sub-component chemicals found in conventional jet fuel. This means their mixture can fully replace conventional jet fuel in any plane. Every other type of SAF needs to be mixed with at least 50% fossil jet fuel, severely limiting sustainability and marketability. AIRCO’s proprietary catalyst also drives higher fuel yields compared to other technologies. So AIRCO can reach cost parity with conventional jet fuel where other SAFs cannot.
