As Lowercarbon’s Head of Portfolio Strategy, Monique works across portfolio insights, follow-on strategy, and operating infrastructure to prepare the firm and its founders for the next stages of growth.
Prior to joining Lowercarbon, Monique was part of the founding team at Engine Ventures, an early-stage tough-tech venture capital firm, where she spent eight years across capital formation, investments, and portfolio support. Most recently, she managed fundraising for two core funds, a follow-on fund, and several specialized vehicles, totaling more than $900M in committed assets.
She got her start in the social-enterprise space, helping launch MASS—a nonprofit focused on the built environment and health outcomes—where she led initial operations and subsequent international expansion.
Monique holds a B.S. in International Health from Georgetown University—during which she lived in Kampala, Uganda, working with the Ministry of Health on malaria and rainfall-pattern studies—and an MBA from MIT, where she completed the rite of passage of running the MIT $100K Entrepreneurship Competition. That experience helped set the course for a rewarding career working closely with founders tackling important problems.
She is now based in Los Angeles, having relocated from the Boston area with her husband and two young kids. Originally from Maine, she learned to ski on sheer ice and is looking forward to the year-round sunshine and powder conditions that life out West will bring.
