As Content Lead for Lowercarbon Capital, Ryder manages the fund’s external writing, media, and messaging.

Ryder previously worked on the communications team at Planet Labs, where he wrote a weekly newsletter on the remote sensing industry and used satellites to tell stories about the changing Earth to over 15k astronauts, professors, executives, journalists, and scientists. Snapshots ran for 160 issues, with features picked up by The New York Times and an HBO documentary. He also led product communications through the launch of two new satellite constellations (high-resolution Pelican and hyperspectral Tanager), as well as multiple product datasets.

He most recently consulted for Pacific Fusion, a Lowercarbon portfolio company engineering pulsed magnetic fusion to create abundant, clean energy. He also night-shifts as a climate tech reporter, with features on AI-powered weather balloons and deep-sea mining robots appearing in Core Memory.

Ryder received a BS and a MA in Earth Systems from Stanford University. He’s now based in NYC.

Outside of work, Ryder has an artistic practice that explores human-altered landscapes. His photographic ventures have taken him to nickel mines in Canada, melting glaciers in Svalbard, and various industrial sites across the American West, where he dons a hi-vis vest to blend in.
